US hails new American hero. Tim Howard.


The US has hailed a new American hero in the form of their football team’s goalkeeper Tim Howard, after he saved the nation from certain World Cup humiliation.
Fans across the country watched in disbelief as Howard fended off shot after shot from the Belgian attack for 120 minutes.
By the final whistle in extra time, the Everton keeper, who has earned the nickname the Human Wall in local media, managed 16 saves - the most in a single game in World Cup history.
Despite his Herculean effort, the US was denied a fairytale ending after Belgium scored twice - the first from 23-year-old Kevin De Bruyne in the dying minutes of the second half and the other from the prolific Romelu Lukaku in the 105th minute.
As one announcer on the official host channel ESPN put it, "he does not deserve to be on the losing side."
